Vintage McCray ice box hinge, hand forged. This hinge was on an ice box at Hotel Ormond, in Ormond Beach, Florida.
Hotel Ormond opened for business on January 1, 1888 with 70 guest rooms. The hotel, purchased by Henry Flagler in 1890, expanded to 400 rooms by the year 1900.
Guests at Hotel Ormond included, but not limited to: John D. Rockefeller, Prince of Wales, Will Rogers, Henry Ford, Harvey Firestone, Thomas Edison, President Warren Harding, Harriett Beecher Stowe, and Al Capone. Rooms were originally rented for $4 per night.
The hotel has a history of numerous owners, and eventually became a retirement condominium, which was razed in 1992. The hotel is now on the National Register of Historic Places.
